The Rockin' Robos (Nick and Robert in Grade 6, and Max in Grade 5) had their event the following day in a Sacramento Area Qualifying Event at Intel Corporation's Folsom Campus.
This year's theme is World Class, Learning Unleashed - and our teams were challenged (and judged) in three areas:
- Project: To identify a problem or challenge tied to the theme (future of learning) and suggest a unique and innovative solution.
- Core Values: To demonstrate teamwork, cooperation, "gracious professionalism", sportsmanship, and interest in other teams' solutions. (See http://www.firstlegoleague.org/mission/corevalues)
- Robot Design: To present the engineering and programming solutions for their robot to satisfy the Robot Game - teams are rewarded with innovative coding and building for their robots.
- Robot Game: To navigate and compete in a "robot arena" and complete missions throughout the game that are tied to the theme.
The Rockin' Robos made a special impression upon the managers and judges of the 8-hour-long event, and brought home the coveted Judges Award. This award is presented to one team that best demonstrates core values - and stands out among all other teams for positive attitudes, great sportsmanship, and tenacity in all areas of the competition.
While neither team has advanced to area championships this year, we look forward to hosting all teams for the December 10th Robotics Open House and final competition for all our teams, where we will also recognize the Robopirates and Rockin' Robos for their efforts, along with our graduating robotics students.
